Possibility of converting Skin cells into neurons

According to a report published in BBC, a Californian team have managed to convert human skin cells directly into functioning brain cells. Experiment was conducted with foetal skin cells which was converted into neurons. Technique validation is already published in Nature journal where experiment was conducted with mice.

Technique: Virus was used to introduce four different transcription factors into the foetal skin cells.
These trascription factors modulate/alter the transcription pattern of  DNA which resulted in gaining the property of neuron by skin cells. This is the example of direct transformation of skin cells into neuron.

If the technique is successful further then this can be used to cure neurological disorders and we can create new brain cells to replace damaged one. As the patient’s skin cells can be used to make neuron therefore it would be an exact match for the them.

Internet search giant Google is being sued by PayPal over its technology to turn smartphones into digital wallets. PayPal is claiming that the trade secrets is leaked by a former PayPal employee, Osama Bedier, who is associated wtih Google now. Google has planned to launch this mobile wallet technology in the US this summer which allow people to pay for shopping with their mobiles with android operating system. Payment using mobile technolgoy is called near field communications or NFC which is currently  in use in Japan. Mr. Bedier was hired by Google in January 2011 and he is vice president of payments in Google.

I can’t believe that Google can do this specially when they can even afford to buy this technology from PayPal. If its true then everything is possible in business.
