Gulf of Mexico oil spill (April,2010)

Oil spill in Gulf of Mexico began with a Deepwater Horizon rig explosion and fire on April 20. The explosion killed 11  workers. After burning for more than a day, Deepwater Horizon rig sank on April 22, 2010. This  Deepwater Horizon rig had been leased by BP PLC from its owner, Transocean Ltd. (the largest offshore drilling contractor in the world). Event  resulted in the oil spill disaster, Since then, oil has been pouring into the Gulf from a blown-out undersea well at a rate of at least 210,000 gallons per day. This will have a massive impact on the environment. Efforts are going on for cleanup.

Haiti earthquake (January, 2010)

A massive 7.0-magnitude earthquake has struck the Caribbean nation of Haiti on 12 January 2010. It was quickly followed by two strong aftershocks of 5.9 and 5.5 magnitude. The Red Cross says up to three million people have been affected. Haitian Government reported that an estimated 230,000 people had died, 300,000 had been injured and 1,000,000 made homeless.

Moral responsibilities of Religious Leaders

Religious leaders

Religious leaders are those who help people to build faith in God. They have the responsibilities to deliver the religious messages to people. They supposed to have thorough command on the religious messages. They spread these messages to masses. People benefited as they get much of the messages in short span of time.

This helps in the building faith in the religious leaders. Many times faith is hypnotic. People believe everything delivered to them as right. It is responsibility of those leaders not to take advantage of devotee’s faith.

Faith is the base on which an individual can be exploited. Also, problems arise when there is demand of return benefit. That is when religious leaders expect comfort and huge sum of money for delivering religious messages. They can go to any extreme to achieve this.

Religious leaders are very powerful everywhere. This is because of huge list of socially/economically/politically powerful devotees. These leaders help them to balance their mind out of their disturbed life. In turn, they provide strong protection to these leaders. Read more »

Creation of artificial life

A group of researchers, including three Indian-Americans, led by American scientist J Craig Venter have developed the first bacteria cell controlled by a synthetic genome. Project cost around 40 million US dollar. This first synthetic cell contains synthetic chromosome made from four bottles of chemicals and made with the help of computer. The three scientist of Indian origin (Sanjay Vashee, Radha Krishnakumar, and Prashanth P Parma) were also involved in the project. Scientists are claiming that it will help in creating biological products like vaccines, biofuels etc.
