MLA accused in Banda rape case arrested

Absconding ruling BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, who allegedly raped a teenaged dalit girl, was today arrested in Banda district, police sources said. Dwivedi, who represents Naraini seat in UP Assembly, was on the run after orders for his arrest were issued yesterday in connection with the alleged criminal assault on the 17-year-old girl belonging to the backward community. After the incident, the girl had been arrested on theft charges last month following a complaint by the MLA. The legislator, who is in his 40s, was arrested in Banda, about 220 kms from here.Read more at The Times of India .

China’s land mass increases by 1,000 sq km

Beijing: China, which has a land area of about 9.6 million sq km, the third-largest country in the world, will get 1,000 sq km more, thanks to Tajikistan which today agreed to cede a 130-year-long disputed territory to the neighbouring Communist giant. The Majlisi Namoyandagon, Tajikistan’s lower chamber of Parliament, ratified a protocol on demarcation of Tajikistan’s common border with China.  This was decided at a regular sitting of the second session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its speaker Shukurjon Zuhurov, Tajikistan’s news agency Asiaplus reported. More Asian sex predators held in Britain

In a massive crackdown launched across Britain amid reports about Pakistani-origin men preying on white girls, police have busted another gang of nine men, including eight Asians, for forcing a dozen teenaged girls to become sex slaves. The police have arrested the men aged between 20-40 after 14 underage white girls claimed to have been targeted for sex. The girls said they had been plied with drink and drugs then taken to flats and houses for sex. The victims – some of them as young as 13 – say they were forced to work as prostitutes and hand over money to the men, the Daily Mail reported. Read more at Zee News.

Turkish doctor suspected of human organ trafficking arrested

A Turkish doctor arrested in an investigation into an alleged human organ smuggling ring protested his innocence Wednesday. “There is no such crime. There is no organ trade,” Yusuf Ercin Sonmez told reporters outside a courthouse, according to Turkey’s semiofficial Anatolian news agency. “There can’t be evidence for something that doesn’t exist,” he added. He was arrested Tuesday in Istanbul’s Kartal district, an officer with the financial crimes department of Istanbul Police told CNN. Read more at CNN.
