There was a power cut to a hospital in Hama which resulted in death of 8 premature infants kept on incubators. Power cut was a part of anti-government demonstration to call an end to President Bashar al-Assad’s reign.

Rami Abdul-Rahman, president of the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Sunday that incident took place in the Hurani Hospital in the northwest Syrian city. According to the early report, the anti-government protests erupted Friday across the country as the latest round of demonstrations calling for reforms. The protests began months ago in the southern city of Daraa which were forcefully suppressed by Syrian forces. Soon protest gain popularity across cities which resulted in many deaths because of clashes between protestors and government forces. Syrian troops rolled into the northeastern city of Deir Ezzor with tanks and bulldozers and stormed the western town of Hula. This resulted in death of 4 civilians. Syrian uprising is treated badly by the government officials who referred some protesters as “armed terrorists: and “gangs”.

The Pope Benedict XVI said he was “following with strong concern the dramatic and growing episodes of violence in Syria, which have provoked numerous victims and grave suffering. I invite the Catholic faithful to pray so that the reconciliation efforts prevail over divisions and rancour.”

There is also International pressure to end violence. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon requested to stop use of force against civilians.
